A Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) for a Xenon vehicle headlamp developed and produced by Zizala Lichtsysteme GmbH (in Wieselburg, Austria) has been completed in 2011, following the methodological considerations described in ISO 14040. The goal was to understand the environmental performance by calculating the contribution of the Xenon headlamp to the impact category Global Warming Potential by quantifying the greenhouse gas emissions over the entire product´s life cycle. Additionally, the performance of the Xenon headlamp has been compared with other headlamp technologies, namely LED and Halogen. The results and derived recommendations serve as input for further design and development efforts of vehicle headlamps by Zizala Lichtsysteme GmbH.
